One Month on Keto

I am down 15 pounds. WOOT!!! 12 pounds to go for my target goal of 155.

Don't plan on posting about this more than once a month now. Will be interesting to see where I am on March 18th.

Drumroll, Please

Well, it's only been 3.5 weeks but yesterday when I weighed myself I dropped into the high 160s. I haven't seen that in probably 20 years. I thought my goal was going to be 165 but I've decided to shoot for 155. It's likely my weight loss will slow down before then but I'm not feeling hungry, deprived or frustrated so I'll just keep on going for now. Hal is going right along with me having also decided to drop 5 pounds more than his original decision.

It probably helps that last night for Valentine's dinner I made a keto friendly pizza, opened a bottle of chianti, first alcohol of any kind in these 3.5 weeks and made a pumpkin cheesecake mousse for dessert.  I only ate 3/4 of my pizza, only 6 oz of wine and half my mousse. I just wasn't as hungry as I used to be. I did enjoy what I had though.

No Puppies for Kaylee

Last Thursday Kaylee was spayed. It's kind of sad that she can't have puppies now, they would have been beautiful but we don't need more puppies, there are always puppies, and older dogs out there needing homes. The hard part since then has been keeping her quiet, not jumping up and down, etc. I've managed til today when she jumped the fence to play with the neighbor's dogs who came into the yard. It's only a 30 inch high fence but I am sure it didn't help those stitches in her belly. But I don't think it did any real damage either.

I took in a urine sample that morning as well since she had been treated for a UTI and trace amounts of blood were also detected. Unfortunately, though the bacteria seems to be gone there is still blood so a sample has been sent off to MSU (MI state university) for analysis. I hope nothing serious will be discovered. I should hear something in another week.

3 Weeks on Keto

So having read my previous post I've only lost another pound really since last Monday, totalling 11 pounds so far. Hal, however, is catching up and has now lost almost 9 pounds. I am hoping my weight loss slow down is simply a blip and a week from now things will be looking better. I haven't been getting enough exercise either since I'm also having a hard time walking outside. We had an rain and ice storm last Thursday which resulted in 1/4 inch of ice covering everything. We lost one of the poplar trees next to the wood stove along the driveway.

And as it's stayed far below freezing there has been no melting of this ice, even some of the roads are still quite treacherous. A few days of sun and temperatures higher than 30 would be ideal but it's not in the near future. So the walking is curtailed lest I fall and break something important.

Hal and I will continue the keto diet for the foreseeable future, he would like to lose around 20 pounds, I am now thinking about 25. Twenty five pounds will put me at a lower weight than I have seen in more than 20 years! Whether I can withstand avoiding bread and chips and ice cream, for as long as it takes will be interesting to see. Thus far neither of us seems to be craving any of those things we have been missing and we are not hungry which was often the case on the various low fat diets we've tried. That is certainly one thing to recommend the keto way of eating, we don't have to "starve" ourselves to lost the weight.

We do miss a nice glass of wine, even though dry wines are considered keto friendly, we've been abstaining to help things along.

Two Weeks on Keto

Well, Hal and I have been on this keto diet for a little over 2 weeks now. He isn't as strict as me as he is still drinking about 2 ounces of juice every morning to try to stave off any possible gout attacks. At least I found a lower carb version of his favorite juice.

So far he has lost about 5.2 pounds and I have lost a hair under 10. On any other diet I've been on it's taken me months to get to this point with a lot more exercise than my 2-4 mile walks every day. Of course we didn't give up so many foods that we love either. I'm certainly not hungry though, nor am I craving anything yet, either.

Can't really say I'm noticing my clothes fitting any better but I am sure that will come. At least I hope so. Hal says his pants feel a little looser.

I've also been lifting my dumbbells again which reminds me I have one more round to do today so I had better get to it.
