Kaylee is 1 Year Old!

Today is Thursday, she actually turned 1 on Sunday, the 16th. I had to work on the house for a bit that day but she didn't get ignored and she got a new toy, a huge grunting hedgehog. She seemed to like it for a day or two but now mainly plays with her grunting rubber chicken. Puppies!

She didn't really want to be photographed

She's a big girl, must be over 80 pounds by now

More Roof Steel and WALLS!!!!!

We finally had another calm morning yesterday and managed to get 2 more pieces of steel on the roof. Only 10 full size sheets left to go, so we need 5 more calm days for those. We won't risk putting more than 2 up on any given day simply because it's tiring, hard for 2 people and we don't want to get too cocky. We've already had a couple of near disasters so why push it?

Then we'll need a few more calm days to cut and put up the half pieces on the gable end. That could be tricky as they will be narrow and more prone to sudden bends and permanent kinks. That will be an interesting challenge.
only 6 more full sheets for the roof on this side
However, we now can do other things more exciting things like wall steel! This is along the back of the garage, next to the kitchen. The doggie door is no more obvious surrounded by J channel and one piece of blue steel. Looking forward to doing more of that once the rainy and windy weather goes away again!
house wrap and first sheet of wall steel
2 sheets wall steel
Once we get the 3rd sheet cut to fit around the doggie door the rest on this side should go up fairly quickly. Looking forward to ddoing and seeing that!

Future Doggie Door

Bought a doggie door the other day. Hal fitted it into the new house and built the tunnel through the wall for it. He has removed it since. Needed the tunnel to be able to attach the exterior wall around it. Hopefully that can happen soon as the weather is still too windy or rainy to do any more roofing.

inside with inner door
from the outside, doggie door removed
It's made by PetSafe, it's aluminum, and large enough for Kaylee to get in and out of and low enough to the floor for Ziggy to get through, too. Hopefully they won't find going through a tunnel too intimidating.

More House Building Photos

We've been busy, roofing when the wind cooperates which hasn't been often and installing girts and more soffits. I evn mowed part of the lawn one day, the dry part. We've also had a lot of rain with more coming this weekend.

But here are some photos of our recent work. Today we finished roofing the reverse gable, which houses the small bedrooms.
Did this side of the small roof the other day

And we put 3 sheets of steel on this side today
Today I finished installing the soffits on the west side of the garage.

the windows and man door were also roughed in on the garage wall

A few days ago I finished the soffits on the east side. For a total of approximately 72 feet of soffit.
Yesterday we installed girts along the large garage door wall, as it was too windy to roof, I just drilled holes in the steel.
short boards but it took all afternoon.
4 sheets on the back is as far as we got a couple weeks ago

At the end of May I also ordered the windows for the house. Anderson 400 series from Home Depot. At some point this year we actually need to install them. The house MUST be dried in this year! We really shouldn't let another winter get to the exposed wood.
