Roof Steel and Soffits

We got the first 2 pieces of roof steel on the east side of the house today. While Hal screwed them down I added 10 more pieces of soffit to the garage to finish the first section. It was a productive day. We quite early to go out to dinner.

Roofing Has Begun

We finally got some roofing steel up a few days ago, 2 pieces, the winds were fairly cooperative. I had drilled the holes a couple weeks ago but the winds were either too strong or from the wrong direction.
In the meantime Hal added more girts to the garage walls as well as framed in its windows, man door and the doggie door. He has also started to notch the floor beams into the posts along the outer walls. Eventually the floor joists will attach to them. Those are the big boards tinted orange, you can sort of see one on the left side of the photo. Closeups below.

60

So today I hit a major milestone, 60 years on this planet. I will be walking the dogs shortly, then leaving for the build site where hopefully Hal and I will get 2 more sheets of steel on the roof. we got 2 up a few days ago, the first of the year. It's been too windy since we started building earlier this month.

After that I shall install a few soffits along the back garage wall, then home to shower, feed the dogs and go out to dinner at our favorite Italian restaurant, Rosa's.

Such an exciting day!!

Keto Success

In 3 months and one day I have lost 38 pounds. I have achieved my weightloss goal of 145. Hal has also achieved his goal of 205 pounds. We have both decided to lose another 5 for more wiggle room, things are moving along more slowly now, we indulge a little more now and then. Wine with dinner tonight, for instance. We both feel pretty good!

And So it Begins...

The house build this year. At least we tried to start today. I drilled holes in 2 sheets of roofing steel, and Hal got onto the roof to attach the string he uses to line the steel up perpendicular to the eaves. But when he tried to lay the radiant barrier down the wind was just from the wrong direction and too strong. So we aborted the build and went home.

Tomorrow Hal will start putting in the end beams, which are like rim joists but don't rest on the a sill plate, instead they are inset into the outside of the posts. That he can do without me (as far as we know, having not done any yet) and it the annoying east wind which will continue for at least another week.

But at least we've started again.
