Bathroom Improvements

We finally put up the mirror over the weekend as well as the cabinet over the toilet. I really like the mirror, it's from Better Bevel, a MI company. The cabinet matches the vanity, it's been in a box for months, and was even tipped over by one rambunctious puppy who shall remain nameless, onto concrete, and it did not break! Well packaged! After I paint some baseboard today, I hope to get up a couple towel rings as well.

I also put up that leaf shaped robe hook seen over my head in the mirror. Stupid thing made a screw pop, now I have to expose it, screw it in tighter and then patch the wall!

My New Closet

Having moved into our main bedroom we decided to get the same closet system for my reach-in closet. Hal gets the walk-in off the master bathroom. It was already getting annoying walking back and forth to the guest room to find all my clothes every morning. I bought 2 units, the same one as the guest room but able to use it to the full 96" length and a second 60" unit to fill out the rest of the 164" closet. It was easier to install this time as we'd already done it before.

The only bad thing that happened was a 24" shelf falling down and hitting me on the head and thumb while trying to make an adjustment. That hurt, and still does 3 days later. At least I didn't need an emergency room visit.
It was a glancing blow.
My closet is filling up fast. I've made a decision if I can't find room in my closet or bureau for all my clothes except winter coats, I will need to get rid of stuff. I know I have more clothes than I need anyway.

One Finished Window

Out of 13 total, 11 in the house proper and 2 in the garage, we have finished 1 window. This is the one in out bedroom. We wanted it done as well as the baseboard trim so we could move our massive sleigh bed into the room and not have to move it again. We succeeded, and then apparently got tired because we haven't worked on the house itself in a week except for moving in more stuff and moving things around. Plus, Hal and I tapped 10 maple trees and are attempting to get a small quantity of maple syrup this year. I think I'm feeling a bit burned out.

I like the 2-color scheme, it's different and it's faster priming and painting wood white than it is to put 3 coats minimum (according to the directions) of polyurethane over stain.

I bought new lamps, too
It has been nice to be sleeping in our own bed again.

Window Jambs

When we ordered our Anderson windows from Home Depot, we opted not to get the standard built in jambs because our walls are wider than the standard 4 inches. They did have an option for 6-inch walls, but we couldn't figure out whether that included the drywall or not, and of course, it wouldn't work for the 8-inch walls either. So, we got them without which makes more work for us because now we have to build them. Last week Hal made the ones for the awning window that our king size bed will be placed under. He originally bought clear pine, but it was ridiculously expensive so he's now going with number 2 pine and carefully selecting each board to avoid bad knots and blemishes. He measured, cut, dry fit and then I stained, put on 3 coats of water-based polyurethane and then he installed them.

I have to fill the nail holes with wood filler and stain them now, but I think it came out rather well.

Next up will be the trim which we are going to do in white. I've already primed and painted those.
